The picture below is a few years old. Some of my neon pathways have turned gray and others have started to flicker and fade. A few wrinkles have also shown up behind the VR glasses.

About

I am a gamer, author, and occasional indie game developer. As an author, I write short stories, novellas, and novels in the speculative fiction genres:

Science fiction under the pen name Neuralsplyce Fantasy, Horror, and general fiction under M L Cope

As a game developer for QFK Games, I mostly create edutainment RPGs that tell stories and/or teach something.

I went into early retirement to pursue these hobbies. My goal is to create stories and games at a professional level--but not necessarily to turn either hobby into a career. That is why I offer everything for free and finance the website and software licenses through the donations of supporters.

Over the course of my professional career, I learned from experience that more growth comes from negative reinforcement rather than positive (the Oh Yeah! I'll Show You Principle).

As a creator, spotting weaknesses is challenging. You're too close to the work and often perceive your project as the flawless ideal in your mind--and not the imperfect reality. Therefore, I have one rule for feedback: include at least one thing you believe could be improved, replaced, or removed to make the story or game better.

Critique my stuff. Seriously.

What's the story behind the name?

As a teenager, Neuromancer by William Gibson blew my mind along with the explosion of cyberpunk stories by authors like Bruce Sterling, Neal Stephenson, etc. Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) were all the rage before the internet and everyone used a 'handle' instead of their real-world name. The two worlds combined to give birth to Neuralsplyce. Handles later morphed into gamer tags when videogames went online too so it's been my alter ego for decades.

What's the name mean?

Cyberpunk tech is about the fusion of hardware with wetware (the brain and nervous system). I decided the junction point where the two are connected is called... the neural splice.

Time is precious and limited. I hope you find my stories and games worthy of your time.

My Stance on AI

While AI Slop has become a scourge to society, I continue to support its use because it allows more people to pursue their creative ideas than ever before. I started writing before the invention of word processors and saw them and then the internet allow more people to tell their stories. I truly believe the next bestselling, chart topping books and movies are already being written with, or by, AI.

Personally, I have 100+ story and/or game ideas I want to write before I die. Therefore, I use AI as a co-author to reduce the 'friction' that often results in stories taking years to write instead of weeks or months. I have no drawing talent so use AI to create cover art. Until a few years ago, the thought of cover art for short works of fiction was inconceivable, let alone audiobook and/or video adaptations. AI permits me to freely share the movies in my mind with you.
